Embracing Motherhood with My 18-Month-Old

Updated: Apr 20

As I sit here, in a room full of toys and the faint scent of baby powder mixed with dirty Diaper smell , I can't help but wonder what a crazy journey I've gone through as a work-from-home mom. My tiny cutie, now is a 18 months old, and is successful at keeping me on my toes with her newfound love for chatter and mischief.

Let me tell you, folks, her vocabulary is expanding faster than my tea gets cold. From her enthusiastic "ba-byes" to vehicles that probably don't even notice her waving, to her assertive "mommy, no" when I try to sneak vegetables onto her plate, every word is loud and clear. She is the boss and she knows that. And let's not forget her own personal rendition of the greatest hits in her Appu language, a linguistic masterpiece that leaves me simultaneously baffled and entertained. At her age I was throwing spoons down from windows but she is so much ahead of her time.

To fuel her linguistic adventures, I've become quite the expert in reading bedtime stories. Picture books have become my best friends, and I've even started giving voices to the characters, much to the confusion of Neighbour's dog. But hey, if it keeps the little one engaged and helps her learn, I'll happily put on my best dramatic performance.

Now, let's talk breastfeeding. Ah, yes, the never ending struggle. My daughter is an addict, folks, and she's not afraid to show it. It's a constant battle of wills between me and a pint-sized milk fiend. But hey, I figure as long as she's happy and healthy, I'll keep playing the role of the dairy dispenser.

But amidst the chaos and the occasional spit-up accidents, there are moments of pure magic. Like when she wraps her tiny arms around my neck in a cute little hug, or when she tries to mimic my laughter with her infectious giggle or way she puts her tiny feet/palm/cheeks on my lips to get attention and kisses ah that's what I live for. Those are the moments that make the sleepless nights and endless diaper changes all worth it.

So mommies who might be feeling overwhelmed or uncertain or even having panic attacks because you were not prepared for this little surprise or shock, let me offer you a virtual high-five and a pat on the back. We're all in this together, navigating the circus called motherhood with equal parts crazy and cuteness. And trust me, even on the toughest days, there's nothing quite like seeing your little one's face light up with a smile that could rival the sun.

Even if nobody has told you yet, you are doing a great job. Cheers to this journey!
